THE FRECH Tool
A framework for providing information on different ways to improve innovation within a company is developed using a design thinking approach, to embrace intrapreneurship at large companies.
THE CHALLENGE
Within a company, there are many good ideas that bright employees have that either go unnoticed or unrealized. New ideas are unsupported and underfunded. It is a challenge for these companies, especially large ones, to embrace intrapreneurship. The challenge was how to embrace intrapreneurship within large companies.
MY ROLE
In a team of five, I was one of the UX designers. I contributed to conducting user interviews, analyzing interview results, prototyping and testing, and documentation.
THE PROCESS
A design thinking approach was taken for this project.

The process
The steps empathize, define, ideate, prototype, test were followed (which is also explained in the next video starting from 02:43). To empathize, research and interviews allowed us to gain user insights and understand the underlying problem. The research findings were used to define a persona with a problem statement. We then brainstormed and sketched possible solutions to the problem. We realized we wanted to help a broader range of companies, therefore we decided to re-define our Persona. We did two iterations of 'define' and 'ideate' phases. With the new persona, the team explored possible ideas and visualized a design solution. A clickable prototype was created in Axure and tested. Testing the prototype gave us valuable input based on which iterations were made. The final changes were then tested for validation.
THE CONCEPT
The end result is a framework for providing information on different ways to improve innovation within a company. The concept is explained in the following video.
THE PROTOTYPE
The final prototype, which is a web application, was designed in Axure. The screens of it are shown below.

USER TESTING
The prototype was tested with real users which gave us valuable feedback that would allow us to make further design decisions.

PERSONAL ACHIEVEMENTS
I call this project a success because,
-
After the project was over, the Innovation Manager from Lufthansa Systems offered the team to do their master thesis at Lufthansa Systems to develop this framework.
-
I realized the power of networking and learned to create it. We successfully interviewed employees from large companies (including Google, IBM, Amazon, BSH, e-on, etc.) for the project with contacts from within the team.
